Acupressure Massage - History

Seated Acupressure massage originates from Japan and is based on a Shiatsu style of massage called Anma. The Japanese government decided to tax Anma practitioners so to avoid the taxes these practitioners changed the treatment and called it Shiatsu thus avoiding the tax charge.

It was adapted and first used in the workplace in America by David Palmer at Apple Computers where he massaged his work colleagues at the desk.

Since then it has progressed into a massage that takes place on a specifically designed chair through the clothes without the use of oils or lotions.
