What is StressAsk someone to describe stress and most people give a similar combination answer. The overwhelming emotional feelings of anxiety, anger, frustration, and physical symptoms such as lack of energy, insomnia and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). When dealing with these symptoms many people may try to compensate by resorting to over eating, drinking alcohol, smoking or taking pills to calm themselves or to enhance their mood. Stress is much more than the physical and emotional states that we can seem to be aware of and feel. Most people are unaware of the physical chain of events that take place when we feel stressed. It is widely accepted that it took us years to evolve to the changing climates and circumstances presented to us from early cavemen/women to now. Unfortunately the last couple of centuries have moved faster than our bodies and as such we have not had time to evolve and so react to them as we would have done hundreds of thousands of years ago - with the 'fight or flight' response. | ![]() | |||
